01 Oct 09

biofresh is pleased to announce the appointment of Tomten Ltd, a Sapporo-based company specialising in sourcing and introducing new overseas technologies to the Japanese market, as the official distributor of its ethylene management systems in Japan.

This appointment follows extremely successful trials of ethylene treatment on processing potatoes in Japan as a result of which Tomten’s first major client has just placed a large order. The client is a well established Japanese snack food manufacturer which specialises in potato chips and vegetable snacks.

biofresh and Tomten Ltd have enjoyed a strong relationship since first collaborating in 2007 and the signing of the distributor agreement will dramatically increase business opportunities between biofresh and Japan. Jonathan Caisley, a Director of biofresh, said: “This is a big step for biofresh and we’re delighted to be making a mark within the Japanese sector. This appointment has created great interest amongst other Japanese users in both the ware potato and processing potato market. We believe that we shall see this great opportunity grow from strength to strength.”

The first multi-store ethylene management system was delivered in August and there are now 8 installations, including 5 multi-store systems. These installations have boosted the biofresh global influence as well as paved the way for residue-free treatment in Japan.
